Niger govt commits to girls empowerment in Agric, meals manufacturing

The Niger Government has reaffirmed its dedication in the direction of empowering girls to play lively roles in agriculture and meals manufacturing.

 

Musa Bawa, the Commissioner for Agriculture, gave the dedication at a ceremony to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration in Minna on Wednesday.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stories that theme of the occasion is: “Empowering Women in Agriculture: Cultivating Resilience, Innovation and Leadership”

 

Represented by Dr Matthew Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary, Bawa mentioned that ladies possessed nice potential to vary the narrative if given satisfactory help.

 

He mentioned that ladies’s roles have been vital to driving the wanted progress in agriculture and improvement of the society at massive.

 

“We are right here to rejoice girls and to tell the world that ladies are essential. If you need the society to progress, you want girls.

 

“We are here to promote women’s inclusive participation in agriculture, to practice agriculture on a large scale, and to engage in agro-business,” he mentioned.

 

The commissioner listed entry to land, finance and expertise amongst others, as the key challenges confronted by girls in agriculture.

 

“We are here to discuss these challenges and proffer solutions. Women must know that they are key players in the agriculture sector” he added.

 

Bawa additional mentioned that the state authorities had applied quite a lot of empowerment programmes for ladies in agriculture.

 

“We are offering small farm machineries which are women-friendly, this can allow girls farmers to have interaction in crop manufacturing and animal husbandry.

Earlier, Malam Adamu Garba-Maikasuwa, the Director, Agric Services and Leakage, mentioned that it was extremely cheap and productive to empower girls to take part in agriculture.

 

“Women are the backbone of our food system, and it is essential to celebrate their power, resilience and contributions to the society,” he mentioned.

 

Also talking, Mrs Grace Disa, the State Coordinator, Small Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria, recommended the ministry for acknowledging girls’s efforts in agriculture.

 

Hajiya Hadiza Sheru, the Permanent Secretary, the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, described girls’s roles in meals manufacturing as ‘critical and important’

 

The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Abigael Jirgi, mentioned that ladies accounted for between 70 and 80 per cent of Nigeria’s agriculture labour pressure.

 

Jirgi, a lecturer within the Federal University of Technology, Minna, mentioned that ladies performed important roles in agriculture and meals manufacturing globally.(NAN)(www.nannewa.ng)
