A non-governmental organisation, Save the Children International (SCI) in partnership with Life At Best Development Initiative (LABDI) with funding from European Civil Protection and Humanitarian and Protection (ECHO), Tuesday, handed over borehole, latrine, class rooms to Garin Itace community of Gujba LGA of Yobe state.
The field manager, SCI Yobe office, Mr Dennis Elisha Dibal, said the project aims to strengthen access to and improve the quality of basic education and children protection in emergencies in Northeast Nigeria.
He stated that the projects were developed with the involvement of key government stakeholders, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ministry of Health.
“We have successfully rehabilitated and upgraded a borehole facility, providing vital water resources not only for the schoolchildren but for the entire community.
“In addition to the improved water supply, Save the Children has also constructed latrines to ensure proper sanitation services for the students, further contributing to a safe and conducive learning environment.
“SCI established temporary learning spaces that will prepare children from the Alternative Basic Education Programme (ABEP) for integration into the formal education system,” Elisha said.
He stated the importance of community involvement in sustaining the projects.
