The Management of the University of Calabar has debunked publication in the media that the university is illegally deducting monies from the students’ loan scheme.
Information obtained from the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Florence Obi, said that the publication listing the University of Calabar alongside other universities over the illegal deduction was false.
The release further stated that there is no N12,000 “fee payment invoice” on students before generating an invoice for fees refund which will commence soon as all refunds are being compiled by the Desk Officer.
“The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar has not authorized any such collection from students. The NELFUND Desk officer of the institution and the Bursar are also not aware of this payment.
“Moreso, our school fees ranges from N83,000 for Agric science, Arts, Education, and Environmental Science Faculties to N134,000 for medical students, Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy students; not N114,000 to N193,000 as reported in some dailies.
“We want the general public to ignore the report as it is completely false and not a true representation of the NELFUND scheme in the university.
“Nevertheless, as a university of great repute, we have commenced a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that no student is extorted for any reason whatsoever as it concerns the NELFUND scheme”.
