The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three suspects in possession of illicit drugs valued at over N2.6 billion.

The illicit drugs include 118.6 tons of Tramadol tablets and 195.3 kg of Pregabalin Capsules among others, being transported in two vehicles to Konar Dole, a distribution centre of illicit drugs.

The drugs were to be distributed to selling points in Jigawa, Yobe and Bauchi states, and the neighbouring Niger Republic.

“This is one of the biggest arrests ever made in the history of the command,” the commandant, Mr Musa Maina told a news conference in Dutse on Tuesday.

He explained that the interception of the drugs in Gumel followed meticulous three days sting operation in Kano and Jigawa states.

Maina said that the suspects, Jamilu Muhammad, Abba Ibrahim, and Shuaibu Umar, and the Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Hummer bus, are being detained pending conclusion of investigation.

“The suspects are undergoing further investigation to uncover the masterminds behind the large-scale drug trafficking,” the Jigawa NDLEA commander added.
