MRCG Suspends Medical Providers in Fajara and Keneba –

The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia (MRCG) on the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has introduced the suspension of medical companies in Fajara and Keneba, efficient Thursday, 13 February 2025. This resolution comes after the MRCG Workers’ Union initiated a sit-down strike on 11 February 2025.

In a press release launched on Wednesday, Prof. Umberto D’Alessandro, Unit Director, said, “We recognize our employees’ right to voice their opinions and have always encouraged dialogue. While we are working with relevant stakeholders to find an amicable solution, we regret to inform the public that clinical services in Fajara and Keneba will be suspended starting Thursday, 13 February 2025.”

The assertion additional outlined {that a} restricted outpatient service can be out there on Monday, 17 February 2025, in each Fajara and Keneba. “The first 200 patients who arrive at the clinic in Fajara before 8 a.m. with pre-scheduled appointments for 13-21 February will be seen. Please note that the ward will remain closed, and we recommend that patients seeking urgent care go to their nearest hospital or health center.”

MRCG assured the general public that it absolutely understands the impression of this suspension on the Gambian inhabitants and can maintain the general public knowledgeable concerning the resumption of companies. Participants in ongoing MRCG medical research requiring medical care throughout this era are suggested to contact their research employees to rearrange various care.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to our stakeholders and the communities we serve. Thank you for your understanding during this time,” the assertion concluded.
