Moroccan Function ‘Hounds’ Wins Jury Prize at FrancoFilm Festival in Rome

The film “Hounds” (Les meutes) by Moroccan director Kamal Lazraq gained the Grand Jury Pize on the fifteenth Francofilm Festival in Rome, which concluded on Friday, on a night attended by a number of diplomats, artists and movie lovers.

The award honors the primary characteristic movie by the Moroccan director, who has gained a number of different nationwide and worldwide prizes, together with the Jury Prize within the ‘ Un Certain Regard ‘ part on the Cannes Film Festival, the Jury Prize on the Marrakech International Film Festival, the Grand Prize on the Tangiers National Film Festival, in addition to the Creation Prize from the Gan Foundation for Cinema.

In a press release to MAP, Festival Director Nolwenn Delisle stated that the award-winning characteristic is “truly a breakthrough”, particularly in its Italian model, because the title is already key to understanding the movie.

On the subject of Moroccan cinema, Delisle commented that “Morocco always offers us films that dazzles and moves us, and we never have enough”.

Speaking on the event, Yassine Dadi, Deputy Head of Mission on the Moroccan Embassy in Rome, who acquired the prize, welcomed this award recognizing each the movie’s director and workforce, in addition to Moroccan cinema generally.

Kamal Lazraq, behind a number of quick movies, tailored his working technique with non-professional actors to direct his first characteristic movie “Hounds”.

This fifteenth version of the FrancoFilm Festival in Rome (March 7-14), organized by the French Institute Saint-Louis Center, in collaboration with the Group of French-speaking Ambassadors, introduced 14 movies and documentaries, together with 12 representing, along with Morocco, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada-Quebec, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Luxembourg, Romania, Rwanda, Switzerland and Tunisia.
