Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has made a startling revelation about some actresses in the industry who allegedly engage in sexual relationships to secure roles.
Kosoko shared his views during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he discussed the controversial issue of “sex for roles” in Nollywood.
The seasoned actor dismissed the notion that directors and producers always impose such demands on actresses, arguing that no one is forced into the practice.
“If I said I need you to warm my bed so that I can give you a role, and you said no, they cannot force you to do it,” Kosoko stated.
He added that some actresses deliberately enter the industry with the intention of leveraging their sexuality to climb the ranks.
“I know some ladies that equally come into the industry with the determination that, by the time ‘I sleep with this and sleep with that, I will get my name,’” he explained.
Kosoko went further to claim that he knows some popular actresses who have followed this path to success.
He also mentioned that such practices are not limited to the film industry alone, revealing that even individuals in other professional fields have engaged in similar behaviour.
“I know of some popular actresses. I know of even a Magistrate,” he remarked.
His statements have sparked debates on social media, with some agreeing with his position while others criticised his remarks as an attempt to downplay the power imbalance in the industry.
The issue of sex-for-roles has long been a controversial topic in Nollywood, with various actresses speaking out against the alleged exploitation by male directors and producers.
Some industry insiders have acknowledged the existence of the practice, while others argue that it is often exaggerated.
In recent years, several Nollywood figures have been accused of using their positions to demand sexual favours from aspiring actresses.
Authorities and industry regulators have also pledged to address the issue by enforcing stricter ethical guidelines.
Kosoko’s comments have reignited conversations on the matter, with many calling for more transparency and accountability in Nollywood.
As the debate continues, some have urged aspiring actors to focus on their talents and professionalism rather than seeking shortcuts to fame.
