Gambian migrant staff travelling to Saudi Arabia for home jobs will earn a month-to-month wage of $200, a senior authorities official has advised the National Assembly’s choose committee.
The announcement follows an settlement between the Gambian authorities and Saudi authorities to facilitate the employment of Gambian staff within the Gulf state.
Modou Secka, the everlasting secretary on the Ministry of Trade, Regional Integration, and Employment, advised lawmakers that the agreed wage is unique of different advantages similar to meals, housing, and medical bills, which can be lined by the Saudi authorities.

“The government is trying to negotiate for more,” he stated.
“That is your take-home pay, and you are not spending anything on food, housing, or medical expenses.”
The deal has sparked widespread criticism, with many Gambians condemning it as exploitative and likening it to “modern-day slavery.”
