Eight cyclists earn nationwide jersey at Nedbank championships

Eight cyclists have been awarded the coveted nationwide jersey on the prize-giving ceremony held final weekend.

The awards adopted the Nedbank National Individual Time Trials (ITT) and Road Race (RR), which passed off on 7 and 9 February on the Matchless Mine in Windhoek.

The cyclists who have been offered nationwide jerseys embody Alex Miller (elite males each RR and ITT), Anri Greef (elite girls each ITT and RR), Rodger Suren (males beneath 18 ITT), Delsia Janse van Vuuren (girls beneath 18 ITT), Justus Beulker (males beneath 23 ITT and RR), Monique du Plessis (girls beneath 23 ITT and RR), Sean Lowe (males beneath 18 RR), and Rosemarie Thiel (girls beneath 18 RR).

Speaking on the prize-giving ceremony Namibian Cycling Federation President, Tauko Shilongo expressed satisfaction with the championships’ final result and acknowledged the passing of the Founding President Dr Sam Nujoma, who had died the night earlier than the street race competitors.

“While we mourn the passing of the Founding Father, let us also celebrate this occasion because his sacrifices made it possible for us to be here today. Congratulations to the winners of the newly designed national jersey; wear it with pride as you represent Namibia in various competitions,” he stated.

Greef received the ladies’s elite race in a time of 35:35 forward of second-placed Breed who clocked 0:38:24. Third place was taken by Mostert in a time of 0:39:00.
