Army honours Islamic scholar preaching against extremism

The Nigerian Army School of Islamic Affairs, has honoured Professor Sani Umar Riyar-Lemu for his consistency in imparting knowledge devoid of extremism.

The award was presented to the scholar by the Commander of the Nigerian Army School of Islamic Affairs, Brigadier General AY Emekomo in Lagos.

“The presentation to Professor Sani Umar Riyar-Lemu is in recognition of his efforts in teaching the Muslim community the right Islamic knowledge, and making sure people keep away from extremism.”

He noted that Rijiyar-Lemu has devoted his life in creating awareness and educating Muslims to follow the right path.

The commander described the professor as courageous, gentle and hardworking, traits that have earned him respect and recognition globally.

Responding, Rijiyar-Lemu thanked the Army for the recognition and honour, saying that the core message of Islam is anchored around promoting peace, unity, patience, gentleness and helping one another.

“There are bad eggs in every religion and society, the same thing in Islam. Having a few bad eggs in Islam does not mean majority of  Muslims or even Islam is bad.”
