Former MP and Nsoatreman proprietor Ignatius Baffour-Awuah arrested over Kotoko supporter’s dying

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the proprietor of Nsoatreman FC, in reference to the violent disturbances that occurred throughout the February 2, 2025, Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Nsoatre within the Bono Region.

The disturbances tragically resulted within the dying of a Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly often known as Nana Pooley.

Baffour-Awuah, a former Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Sunyani West was apprehended together with two different people, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.

All three suspects are at present in police custody and are helping within the investigation. The police have revealed {that a} search of Owusu’s room led to the invention of two clothes with suspected bloodstains, in addition to an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.

In a press release, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, expressed condolences to the household of the deceased and the management of Asante Kotoko, assuring them that the police are dedicated to conducting an intensive investigation into the incident.

A particular workforce from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has been deployed to help the Bono Regional Police Command with the investigation.
