ZimParks warns vacationers after highschool pupil drowns at croc-infested dam at Matopos

BULAWAYO – The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has warned vacationers to avoid the waters of Maleme Dam at Matopos National Park after a highschool pupil and novice rugby participant drowned.

Mbongiseni Moyo, 18, a Lower Sixth pupil at Gifford High School was reported lacking on December 14 after taking a swim within the dam.

His physique was discovered a day later.

He had been touring the park with a bunch of about 30 gamers from Highlanders Rugby Club.

ZimParks spokesman Tinashe Farawo stated: “It seems in some unspecified time in the future the group determined to chill down by swimming at Maleme Dam.

“Mbongiseni Moyo was subsequently reported lacking resulting in a search. He was tragically discovered to have drowned.

“As ZimParks we want to remind tourists that swimming at Maleme Dam is strictly prohibited because there are crocodiles there.”

Highlanders Rugby Club stated in a press release: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of younger and promising Gifford High School and Highlanders Rugby Club participant Mbongiseni Moyo.

“He will forever be in our hearts. We would like to pass our condolences to the Moyo family.”
