The New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the Nanton Constituency has suspended 34 members over alleged misconduct in the course of the 2024 common elections.
The suspended members embrace polling station executives, electoral space coordinators, constituency executives, amongst others.
In a letter signed by the NPP Nanton Constituency Chairman, Abukari Inusah, it was indicated that on January 23, 2025, a gathering of the Council of Elders, Council of Patrons, and Constituency Executives unanimously agreed to droop the members.
“I am writing to respectfully inform the National, Regional, and all party members that the following party members have been decisively suspended as members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) until further notice. This is in accordance with Article 3 Clause (7)(1) and Clause (8)(1) of the party’s 2017 Constitution, as amended with effect from February 6, 2025, due to undesirable findings against them by the party’s Disciplinary Committee and Constituency Executive Committee,” the letter acknowledged.
According to the chairman, a number of complaints have been submitted by occasion members, accusing the suspended people of violating the occasion’s structure.
“Twenty-five party members petitioned the leadership of the party, and this petition was carefully considered. At the conclusion of the meeting, a resolution was adopted that established findings of misconduct during and after the December 7, 2024 general elections,” he revealed.
Findings towards the suspended members embrace declaring assist for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate towards the NPP candidate, campaigning overtly for the NDC candidate, distributing objects to voters on behalf of the NDC, and obstructing voters by mounting roadblocks on election day.
“They also urged voters to choose the NPP presidential candidate but vote for the NDC parliamentary candidate and refused to work for the party during the elections,” the letter added.
The suspended members will stay on indefinite suspension pending a last report from the Disciplinary Committee on their future standing throughout the occasion.
